Vancouver-based fiction writer Robyn Harding tackles her first nonfiction book by setting out to find food that will not give her 10-year-old son “man boobs.” The trouble isn’t finding food, it’s affording it. And as much as Harding, a wife and mother of two, wants to make litterless lunches, green her home and cut down on the commercialism of birthday parties and Christmas, sometimes it’s just so hard. But with her son fake-barfing every time a meal isn’t organic and her daughter losing sleep over the plight of the polar bears, Harding knows she has to do what it takes. Even if that means riding the smelly bus. With laugh-out loud humour, Harding deals with these challenges while wondering how far her family has come, how far they are willing to go, and whether being green will send her to the loony bin.
