Seeing Is Believing

Are you a Fashionista that pops in contact lenses on the daily in the name of beauty? Well, you’re not alone…over 3 million Canadians wear contacts everyday! We don’t wanna diss our convenient lenses but there is definitely a more eco-savvy path we can follow that is equally chic.

As handy as these little contact gems are, we need to be reminded of the mess they leave behind on our gorgeous planet:

• •  Large bottles of solution contribute to our growing landfills
• •  Lens cases & packaging used over the years
• •  Production waste & energy used to create contact lenses

This is not to say, you should stop wearing lenses, altogether. Rather, if the occasion permits, take your lenses out and explore other options. There are some online sites popping up on recycling your lenses so be on the lookout!

Another alternative, rock the sexy librarian look and get yourself a pair of eco-chic goggles. One of the stand-outs in green eyewear is Modo. In 2009 they launched a line called ECO (earth conscious optics). Their modern frames use waste material from the company’s other collections and the stainless steel is certified 95% post-consumer recycled material. Sexy & eco-friendly!

Another bonus: Modo’s packaging is 100% recycled cardboard and comes with a return envelope. Why? When you’re done with your glasses, simply put them in the mail and they will end up helping someone with a matching prescription in a developing country. Now, that’s what we call “paying it forward!”
