The Kind Diet
The Kind Diet by Alicia Silverstone
Once a month, we count on best-selling Toronto author and Consumer trends tracker, Chantel Simmons to share her views on some of the hottest eco reads!
Cher Horowitz, the fashion forward blonde from Clueless, would have likely loved The Kind Diet, given it falls in line with beauty and wellness. Every girl wants to look and feel great, right? Alicia Silverstone has sworn off meat, fish and dairy, and although Cher might have had a bit of trouble finding lunch in her school’s cafeteria, Alicia makes adopting this new lifestyle pretty simple.
The book outlines the three-level system used to achieve total health enlightenment starting with Flirts, then Vegans, and lastly Superheroes. Built on a foundation of whole grains and vegetables, the main principle of the diet is based on macrobiotics. While at first glance the diet sounds a little unappetizing at first, there are actually tons of options and alternatives, even delicious desserts. The second half of the book provides fun recipes to help you add a little punch to the plant-based diet.
Side effects include clear skin, weight loss and lots of energy. (Even Cher couldn’t say no to those benefits.)
Chantel Simmons is a bestselling author of women’s fiction, including Stuck in Downward Dog and Love Struck, and when she’s not curled up on the couch reading other people’s books, she’s at work on her third novel. She has also written for numerous magazines including ELLE Canada, FASHION, HGTV, Food Network, W Network, Maclean’s, MoneySense and Best Health.
